Basketball history of the area:
During 1973 a group of basketball enthusiasts founded a school team and named it Gimnazijalac. On the initiative of participating players of the school centre Niko Rolovic, the team played several friendly games during that year with the teams from Herceg Novi, Titograd and Ulcinj, demonstrating extraordinary talent and passion. The team participated in the Montenegrin Championship for juniors in Herceg Novi and that was its first official championship.
Although several delegates gave a proposal to name the new club Mornar, it was decided with a vast majority that the official basketball champions were called Mladost.
Thus Mladost became a formal ancestor of the high school club Gimnazijalac which performed for a year under that name playing around twenty friendly games. The first successes followed, namely winning the cadet and junior republic championships. In the pre-season it was already evident that the team Mladost would be the leader during the following republic championship in 1977.
1st October 1977 will remain written with golden letters in the rich 50 year old basketball history of the city of Bar. On that day the seaport city got its first representative in the federal championships - those were the young basketball players of the team Mladost who succeeded in being placed into the Second Federal league - group south. Due to the decision of the Basketball Association of Montenegro and the Federation of the the Republic on reorganisation of the federal leagues Mladost performed in the newly formed Montenegrian Super league at the beginning of 1979.
On 25th December 1980 Mladost changed its name into basketball club Mornar.
On 26th September 1992, playing a game against Kikanda, Mornar stared another battle and that was the battle for entering the A league and being placed among the best Yugoslavian teams.
10th April 1993 will be remembered forever in the history of this city. That night, the Mornar players organized a real celebration for Bar and entire Montenegro. Mornar got promoted to the A league.
The club was founded again in 2003. In the 2003\2004 season they won promotion from the Montenegrian I B league to the I Federal league, having won all their 32 games. In the same year they won the Montenegrian Cup. In the season 2005\2006 they finished in second place in the I A Federal league.
In the following year Mornar participated in the Montenegrian Super league and in the final tournament of the Montenegrian Cup.
